October 2026 product updates

This month, the Hāpara team has rolled out some major enhancements to Hall Pass designed to make the platform easier for teachers and administrators to use. We hope this helps schools meet hallway student supervision requirements and create a safer, more productive learning environment.

Let’s take a look at how these updates make managing hall passes more efficient across school campuses.

Extended History & Data Export

Hall pass usage data helps school teams understand long-term trends and identify students who may need additional support or intervention. With the latest update, school leadership can now select up to 90 days in the time selector across both the History and Analytics pages.

In addition to extended data retention, a dedicated download option is now available on the History page. Admins and teachers can quickly export pass records based on the active filters (location, status, or date range) that are selected. This feature gives administrators the ability to perform deeper analysis, generate reports, or maintain precise safety compliance logs.

Advanced Scheduled Passes

Learn more about how to schedule passes

There’s a lot going on during the school day, and being able to schedule hall passes in advance can help bring some order to the chaos. Schedule passes for early release, late arrival, or daily trips to the nurse for regular medication. There’s a lot you can plan for, giving administrators a better idea of who will be in the hallway and when.

Key highlights of scheduled passes include:

  • Admin Controls: Admins can toggle scheduled passes per pass type in the Hāpara Admin Console and optionally grant self-scheduling permissions to students.
  • Standardized School Hours: School operating hours are now defined centrally in General Settings, ensuring scheduling rules and analytics strictly follow your local time zone.
  • Teacher & Student Workflows: Teachers will see a new scheduling toggle directly inside the Create Pass form. Students have a dedicated Student Dashboard where they can view upcoming passes or request scheduled appointments for counseling, library visits, or office hours.
  • Conflict Warnings: When scheduling or issuing immediate passes, the system checks for upcoming scheduled passes within 30 minutes and provides informational alerts to prevent overlapping requests without blocking immediate needs.

Streamlined Kiosk Sign-In & Setup

Learn more about how to use kiosk mode

Kiosk mode for shared classroom and hallway kiosks has been upgraded to eliminate login bottlenecks and friction during class changes:

  • Faster student requests: Kiosks now automatically display the school’s student email domain beside the sign-in field. Students only need to type their username (the portion before the @ symbol), reducing input time and typing errors. Refreshing an active kiosk instantly applies this feature without requiring re-pairing.
  • Extended Sign-In Duration: In addition to the standard 12-hour kiosk session, sign-in duration is now 30 days, significantly reducing how often teachers must re-pair kiosk devices.
  • Guided 3-Step Setup Wizard: A new wizard simplifies configuring kiosks by guiding staff through naming/location setup, display options, and device pairing in three quick steps.
  • Flexible “Class Will Change” Mode: For shared kiosks, enabling “Class Will Change” allows students to select their current active roster during sign-in, applying specific class rules and limits dynamically.
  • Active Pass Cards: When “Show Active Passes” is enabled, returning students can simply tap their name card to mark themselves as returned without typing their details again.
